Assessment of energy customer perception, willingness and acceptance to participate in smart grids - a Portuguese survey
In the context of smart grids, the participation of energy consumers is a crucial enabler to the success of balance in the grid. Consumers' willingness should be considered when designing new participation models, such as for demand response and transactive energy. This publication conducted an assessment of energy customer perception, willingness, and acceptance to participate in smart grids. The Portuguese survey was compared with other regions' surveys and the acceptance results were analyzed considering technological acceptance models. It was found that 92.9% of participants are willing to plan their energy usage to face hourly energy prices and that 95.0% of participants are willing to accept an external control of at least one appliance, enabling direct load control demand response programs, indicating the feasibility of applying the participation model in smart grids.
